Today was another great day in B3! In reading we began analyzing the structures of nonfiction texts. Descriptive, sequential, problem/solution, cause/effect and compare/contrast are the five most common ways that nonfiction authors organize their work. When readers are able to recognize the text pattern, they will be better equipped to comprehend the text by anticipating the purpose of the reading.
In math we explored line graphs, a way to show how data changes over time. Tomorrow we will make line graphs and end our first module on Friday with a test over the unit on collecting, organizing and representing data in graphs.
In social studies we are looking at the four different regions of our state: mountains, coastal, desert and valley. The students have a project that is due October 1st. They are making flip-books that contain a map of each region and 5 facts about them. This is now an "anchor activity" that can be done in class if they finish their work early. It can also be worked on at home.
